The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market is a project of the Bastrop Sustainable Agricultural Community (BSAC), a nonprofit 501c3 corporation and was established in 2008.
The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market has been a thriving Farmers Market for fifteen years and counting. With a deep sense of community, the mission of the Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market (a Texas Department of Agriculture Certified Farmers Market) is to create and sustain a market space for small family farmers, ranchers, producers, and artisans, including those who are economically disadvantaged, to sell and promote their own farm and ranch products, artisan wares, ready-to-eat foods, and other homemade products in a family-oriented environment.
The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market provides access to local, healthy, and affordable food, for children and adults of Bastrop and the surrounding area while supporting family farmers and ranchers to create a local, sustainable agricultural economy, preserve farmland, and improve individual health and strengthen the community.
The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market provides and supports education about and support of the region & agriculture including education on the benefits of supporting a local, sustainable, agriculture to help preserve green spaces and farmland in the surrounding community, with a goal to help improve individual health and strengthen the community. The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market also supports the local food pantry to ensure that those with food insecurity have access to the same healthy food. The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market contributes funds to other local charities, including the women’s shelters, children’s 4-H clubs, and local animal shelters. "Farmers markets create new business opportunities for farmers interested in selling sustainably produced food. This helps protect the natural environment, public health, human communities, and animal welfare. ” When food is produced, processed, distributed, and sold all within the same region, more money stays in the local economy, which leads to sound economic development and job creation.”
